Welcome to The Old Chelmsfordians Association Website
The Old Chelmsfordians Association is based on Lawford Lane, Chelmsford and offers members a place to meet socially and a wide range of sporting activities including football, cricket, tennis and table tennis.
The Association was established in 1895 to enable former pupils of King Edward VI Grammar School, Chelmsford, to keep in touch with one another after leaving School, both socially and on the sports field. Membership is open to all former pupils, staff and governors of the School and all enquiries can be directed to George Heseltine, the Secretary, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Since the first reunion dinner was held at the school under the headmastership of Mr. Frank Rogers, the Association has gone from strength to strength and a more detailed history can be found under ‘The Association’ link.
Having managed to survive the interruption of the Second World War, thanks mainly to the endeavours of the now legendary member of KEGs staff, John Henry ‘Pussy’ Johnson, members returning from the armed forces took another huge step forward in the growth of the sports and social sections of the Association by launching a War Memorial Fund which led to the acquisition of land at Lawford Lane for our Sports Field and Headquarters which was officially opened in July 1951.
With continuing improvements since to both ground and clubhouse members of the Old Chelmsfordians can now enjoy some of the best sporting and social facilities to be found anywhere in Essex. We currently have two football pitches, one cricket square and three hard floodlit tennis courts and can additionally offer table tennis, summer hockey, indoor bowls and snooker.
Sports membership is now open to all and, with a number of sides in each sport, there should be no problem in joining a team that matches your ability. It’s easy to join us - simply click on the link for the sport that interests you below and get in touch with the contact person that is listed. You'll also find out more information about which leagues and divisions we play in - and how we're getting on at the moment.
